MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin goes for its fourth consecutive home victory in the all-time series against Tennessee Tech when the two squads collide in an Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball showdown on Saturday, Feb. 6. Tipoff time is scheduled for 4 p.m. (following the women's basketball contest).
The Skyhawks (5-11, 3-9 OVC) have not lost to the Golden Eagles in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center since Feb. 20, 2014 - winning their last three matchups by an average of 12.3 points per outing.
This game marks the first meeting between UT Martin and Tennessee Tech this season. Although the Golden Eagles are one of the Skyhawks' four in-state OVC opponents, they have faced Tennessee Tech the least amount of times (10) out of any league foe since the start of the 2011-12 season.
UT Martin is coming off an 82-70 setback to Jacksonville State on Thursday. In that game, Jaron Williams went off for a career-best 21 points (including a career-high five trifectas) while Kenton Eskridge posted a final stat line of 16 points, six rebounds and six assists. Eman Sertovic's season-high 13 points provided the Skyhawks with their third double-digit scorer as UT Martin splashed a season-best 13 three-pointers on 50 percent shooting behind the arc.
Williams has been on a scoring tear for the Skyhawks lately, topping the squad in scoring in three of the last four games (averaging 17.8 points per contest over that span).
The Golden Eagles (2-17, 2-10 OVC) are in search of their first road victory of the season after a narrow 68-64 setback at Southeast Missouri on Thursday. After connecting on seven 3-pointers (on 11 tries) in the first half on its way to a 39-26 halftime advantage, Tennessee Tech went 0-for-7 from three-point range over the final 20 minutes. Damaria Franklin and Jr. Clay shared the team lead in scoring with 14 points apiece while Keishawn Davidson pitched in 13 points for the Golden Eagles.
