The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will open its final homestand of the regular season with a matchup against Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State on Thursday, Feb. 18. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (14-4, 13-2 OVC) return home after winning back-to-back contests last week on the road. Playing two contests at Austin Peay (56-51) and Murray State (67-65) in just over 24 hours, it marked the first time that the Skyhawks had won games on back-to-back days in the regular season since the 2000-01 season.
Senior Chelsey Perry returned to action after missing four contests with an injury and played a big role in the comeback victory at Murray State. Perry scored 18 points off the bench – including the game-winning layup with 1.1 seconds to play to give the Skyhawks a 67-65 road victory. In her last matchup against Morehead State, Perry tallied a dominant double-double with 28 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks.
The Skyhawk duo of sophomore forward Dasia Young and junior guard Sade' Hudson have strung together impressive performances of their own lately. Young has scored in double figures in five straight outings – averaging 16.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game during the stretch. Hudson has also excelled in her last two games, earning her first two starts of the season, averaging 12.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
Morehead State (6-13, 5-10 OVC) enters Thursday's matchup having dropped five of its last six contests and 1.5 games out of the final spot in the upcoming OVC Basketball Championship field. The Eagles are led by the duo of Gabby Crawford (12.1 ppg, 8.7 rpg) and Ariel Kirkwood (11.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg). The pair rank amongst league leaders in rebounding, ranking second and third respectively, while the Eagles lead the OVC and rank third nationally with 133 blocked shots.
This marks the 55th meeting between the two programs in a series which dates to 1993 with Morehead State holding a narrow 28-26 advantage. UT Martin has won three consecutive meetings – including an 80-63 matchup back on Jan. 23.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley will be on the call locally on WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - in addition to a link for live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
