OVC BASKETBALL MEDIA DAY: WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
10/22/2021 10:50:00 AM | Women's Basketball
While the Skyhawks are coming off back-to-back regular season conference championships, the team was picked to finish fourth in the league's preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors. Belmont was picked as the heavy favorite to win the league title in 2021-22 while Tennessee Tech and Murray State ranked second and third, respectively.
UT Martin recorded one of its best seasons in program history last year after going 22-6 overall while posting a 17-2 mark in league play for the squad's seventh regular season championship. The Skyhawks were rewarded with yet another postseason berth which the team turned into another piece of history after becoming the first program in the OVC to notch multiple postseason victories with a pair of wins in the Women's NIT.
The program enters its 13th season under the direction of head coach Kevin McMillan. During that span, the Skyhawks have posted a 240-142 record while going 160-45 in conference play. The Skyhawks have not finished below fourth place in the league standings during McMillan's tenure and will look to continue that trend with key returners Seygan Robins (7.7 ppg, 3.3 apg), Paige Pipkin (7.3 ppg, 2.8 apg) and Kyannah Grant (3.4 ppg, 2.0 apg) leading a squad which features seven total returners and welcomes seven newcomers into the fold.
