
SKYHAWK WOMEN’S HOOPS TO HOST SIUE FOR SATURDAY MATINEE

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team moves towards the midway portion of its six-game homestand with an Ohio Valley Conference matchup against SIUE on Saturday, Jan. 30. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (9-3, 8-1 OVC) are looking to put the finishing touches on an impressive month. UT Martin has found a nice string of success since the calendar flipped to 2021 with an overall record of 7-1 during the month of January – including a current seven-game winning streak. During the team's hot stretch, the Skyhawks have outscored their opponents by an average of 18.6 points per game.
During UT Martin's recent winning streak, the Skyhawks have relied heavily on its defensive effort to pave the way for success. In each of the past seven games, the Skyhawks have held their opponents under 40 percent from the field while forcing an average of 17 turnovers per game.
UT Martin is led offensively by senior forward Chelsey Perry with 27.3 points per game which ranks first nationally while scoring in double figures in 42 consecutive contests. The matchup pits two of the league's longest tenured head coaches in UT Martin's Kevin McMillan and SIUE's Paula Buscher. McMillan ranks third in OVC history with 227 career victories in 12 seasons while claiming three OVC Coach of the Year honors for his career. Buscher has experienced success in her nine seasons while ranking second amongst active OVC head coaches with 116 wins at the helm of the Cougars.
SIUE (5-10, 2-8 OVC) is looking to cap off a five-game road trip on a high note after dropping three of its first four matchups. In their most recent contest, the Cougars fell on the road at Southeast Missouri, 77-62, despite placing four players in double figures. The Cougars are led offensively by Mikayla Kinnard (10.4 ppg, 3.1 apg) and Allie Troeckler (10.2 ppg, 6.3 rpg).
Saturday's contest marks the 28th meeting between the two programs in a series which dates back to 1986. UT Martin holds a 19-8 advantage in the series while riding a six-game winning streak dating back to 2018.
