• 2020-21 Football Schedule | OVC Record Book | FCS Insider Website
At this year's Virtual OVC Media Day presented by Delta Dental of Tennessee and Farm Bureau Health Plans, OVC TV analyst Bob Belvin interviewed each league head coach to get their perspective on the upcoming season, including UT Martin head coach Jason Simpson.
After a rare losing season in 2018 (the program's first since 2011), UT Martin rebounded last year by finishing 7-5 overall and 6-2 in OVC play a year ago. Four of the team's five losses came to either FBS opponents or FCS teams who participated in the FCS Playoffs. This year head coach Jason Simpson, the dean of OVC coaches, begins year No. 15 with 87 career victories, the sixth-most in OVC history (just five out of fifth place). The Skyhawks were led by OVC Freshman of the Year John Bachus III, who was named OVC Freshman of the Year and a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award in 2019. Among freshmen quarterbacks nationally, a year ago he ranked second in total passing yards (2,549), fourth in passing yards per completion (13.56) and fifth in passing touchdowns (18).
This year OVC football teams will compete in the spring after the 2020 fall conference season was postponed. Eight OVC schools will compete in a seven-game round robin schedule that is set to begin on Sunday, February 21.
Games will be held on Sunday's with the exception of Easter weekend (when they will be played on Saturday, April 3). No games are currently scheduled for March 7 or April 17, although any potentially postponed games could use those dates as makeups.
This year the NCAA will hold a 16-team playoff, with selections announced on Sunday, April 18 and competition beginning the following week. The FCS National Championship Game will be contest in mid-May in Frisco, Texas.
