BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the fifth time this season and the 13th time in her career, University of Tennessee at Martin standout forward Chelsey Perry has been named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week after a pair of standout performances against Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State last weekend.
Perry has become accustom to earning the league's top weekly honor over the past two seasons, claiming over half of the league's last 22 accolades. For comparison, only two other players during that same span have posted multiple honors. With her 13th career honor she currently sits tied for third all-time in OVC history with Murray State's Ke'Shunan James while sitting only behind UT Martin's Jasmine Newsome (15) and Tennessee Tech's Janet Holt (14).
A native of Middleton, Tenn., Perry just missed out on averaging a double-double for the week with 25.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She continued her streak of scoring 20 points or more to 10 straight games – ranking as one of just two players in the nation to eclipse the 20-point plateau in every game this season. She began the week with 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks against Eastern Kentucky before registering 28 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks against Morehead State for her sixth double-double this season.
Perry moved into third place on the program's all-time scoring list by surpassing Mary Kate Long and ranks only behind Heather Butler and Jasmine Newsome with 1,789 career points. On the season, she ranks first nationally with 28.4 points per game while sitting amongst national leaders in points (284, 17th), free throws made (67, 18th), field goals made (100, 18th) and double-doubles (six, 26th).
