MARTIN, Tenn. – In a game which featured 12 lead changes and six ties, it was the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team which ultimately found the winning formula on Tuesday night, picking up a 66-63 victory over Ohio Valley Conference rival Belmont to open a lengthy homestand.
The Skyhawks (8-3, 7-1 OVC) picked up their sixth consecutive victory and remained unbeaten at home this season. With the win, UT Martin improved to 85-11 in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center against OVC foes since 2010 while stringing together 15-straight home victories against league opponents dating back to the 2018-19 season.
UT Martin shot well throughout the contest but faced an uphill battle in the back-and-forth battle. In a game which saw the lead change hands or become tied a total of 18 times, the Skyhawks only held the lead for just over 14 minutes of the contest but the home squad would take their final advantage with 4:10 to play in the contest and never give it back.
The senior pair of Chelsey Perry and Maddie Waldrop led the Skyhawks in double figures. Perry chipped in yet another 20-point evening for the 11th consecutive game, tallying 24 points, five rebounds, four blocks and four assists. Waldrop enjoyed a nice evening of her own by posting the 12th double-double of her illustrious career by tallying 11 points and 10 rebounds. Three other Skyhawks flirted with double figures as Dasia Young, Kyannah Grant and Damiah Griffin scored eight points each.

"Today was a weird game," UT Martin head coach Kevin McMillan said. "I thought both teams got big leads, gave up big leads and didn't execute well. I thought Belmont outplayed us and had better effort than we did. The only thing we did do well in this game was figure out a way to win. We are going to have to get better but I am proud that we found a way to win."
Four different players scored in double figures for a Belmont (6-4, 3-2 OVC) squad which struggled to shoot from the floor but made the most of its attempts from beyond the mark by knocking down 14 three-pointers on the evening. Reigning OVC Freshman of the Week Destinee Wells paced the team with 19 points while the trio of Conley Chinn, Tuti Jones and Jamilyn Kinney scored 11 points each.
UT Martin will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 28 with a home matchup against Eastern Illinois. Tipoff from the Elam Center is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m.
