MARTIN, Tenn. – The longest homestand for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball program in 34 seasons begins on Tuesday, Jan. 26 with a matchup against Southeast Missouri at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. The game, which is the backend of a doubleheader with the Skyhawk women's basketball team against Belmont, will take place at 8 p.m.
The Skyhawks (3-9, 1-7 Ohio Valley Conference) are scheduled to host their next six opponents, which will be the longest homestand in the school's Division I Era (since 1992) and is the longest since six straight home games from Dec. 10, 1987 through Jan. 4, 1988.
UT Martin is hoping to play off its previous home success against the Redhawks, as the Skyhawks are 26-14 all-time against Southeast Missouri inside the Elam Center. UT Martin has won five of the last six home contests against the Redhawks (the only setback coming in overtime during the 2017-18 campaign).
With a win, the Skyhawks would complete a season sweep of Southeast Missouri for the fifth time since joining the Division I ranks and first time since the 2008-09 season.
UT Martin last squared off against the Redhawks back on Dec. 18 in the OVC opener for both squads. In that game, the Skyhawks led for 36:15 of clock time and won the game on a go-ahead jumper with 0.2 seconds remaining. Cameron Holden went off for a career-high 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds and four steals for UT Martin, who also saw Jaron Williams add 13 points and a career-best six rebounds.
Southeast Missouri (4-9, 2-5 OVC) is coming off a 76-65 road loss at Morehead State last Thursday. DQ Nicholas led the way with 18 points while Nolan Taylor (13) and Chris Harris (10) both reached double figures in the scoring column.
In the matchup against the Skyhawks earlier this season in Cape Girardeau, Harris was responsible for a career-high 23 points. He is part of a balanced scoring attack as all five projected Redhawk starters average at least 8.9 points per game.
Chris Brinkley will have the call on both ESPN+ and locally on WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - as well as a link for live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
