MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin football unofficially kicked off its season today with its annual participation in the league's Ohio Valley Conference Football Media Day presented by Delta Dental and Farm Bureau Health Plans which was held as a virtual event. Head coaches and student-athletes of the eight OVC schools participating in the spring schedule spoke with members of the media to preview the 2020-21 spring season.
Although no official preseason poll will be released this year, league head coaches and communications directors did vote on a preseason All-OVC team which was publicly released last July. That team can be viewed here.
The Skyhawks will open the spring season with five Preseason All-OVC honorees on its squad, including running back Peyton Logan, wide receiver/tight end Colton Dowell, offensive guard Aries Davis, defensive tackle Austin Pickett and safety JaQuez Akins.
The eight teams are set to play a seven-game round robin schedule over an eight-week period. Games will be contested on Sundays (with the exception of Easter weekend when the games will be played on Saturday) and start during a 1-3 p.m. window local time.
The NCAA is scheduled to announce the selections for a revised 16-team playoff field on Sunday, April 18. This year's field will include 11 automatic qualifiers and five at-large bids. The first round is scheduled for the weekend April 24 with the FCS National Championship game to be played on either May 14, 15 or 16 in Frisco, Texas.
Fans will get the first look at the Skyhawks with the home opener scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 21 against Eastern Illinois. UT Martin will also play host to Ohio Valley Conference rivals Jacksonville State (March 14), Southeast Missouri (April 3) and Tennessee Tech (April 11).
Season tickets and Champions Club membership packages for the team's four home games at Hardy M. Graham Stadium are currently on sale through the Skyhawk ticket office. Individual game tickets will not be sold this season. Tickets may be purchased by mail at 1091A Skyhawk Fieldhouse or through the UT Martin Ticket Office by calling 731-881-7207.
