MARTIN, Tenn. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today that University of Tennessee at Martin's Parker Stewart was one of 1,348 student-athletes on its 2019-20 Honors Court roster.
The NABC Honors Court recognizes men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be academically a junior, senior and varsity player, hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2019-20 academic year, matriculate at least one year at their current institution and be a member of a NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach.
Stewart is one of only six Ohio Valley Conference recipients on the prestigious list. Only five honorees from Division I universities in the state of Tennessee made the list.
Academically, Stewart accumulated a 3.8 GPA on his way to obtaining his bachelor's degree from UT Martin in the summer of 2019 – taking him less than two years after graduating from nearby Union City High School. He is currently only three classes away from finalizing his Master's degree in business administration.
Last week, Stewart announced that he withdrew from the 2020 NBA Draft process and will return to UT Martin for his redshirt junior season during the upcoming 2020-21 season. Last year, he was the only NCAA Division I player to average at least 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 three-point field goals made per game on his way to All-OVC and NABC All-District accolades.
Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927 by Forrest "Phog" Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. The organization currently has nearly 5,000 members who are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game (advocacy, leadership, service and education) by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes.
