MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin loses a heartbreaker as a seventh-inning rally led to the Skyhawks 5-3 defeat.

Heading into the game, Sophomore right-hander Seth Petry has been finding his rhythm. Over the past 5.1 innings, he had only given up one earned run and showcased why he belonged as the third starter for the Skyhawks. Evansville ended up facing that Petry as he left them bewildered for the three innings that he pitched. In those three innings, Petry struck out three and pitched a no-hitter.

While Petry did his thing on the mound, the Skyhawks offense gave him the run support he deserved in the second inning. With two outs, junior Andruw McKenzie sent a shot to right-center that settled right before the wall in an RBI double to put UT Martin up 1-0.

The scoring subsided as Evansville took the reigns as the bullpen came into the game. A one-run sixth and a four-run seventh inning put the Purple Aces ahead 5-1. Soon enough, it was the bottom of the seventh and the heart of the order was up. Against the likes of Sophomore Jack Culumovic, freshman Christian Hall, senior Sean Dixson and junior Casey Harford, the Skyhawks were able to take advantage. Culumovic doubled, Hall doubled to score Culumovic, Dixson singled and Harford finished it with a single to score Hall. Before it was all said and down, the Skyhawks had two more runs and the lead was cut to 5-3. However, the Skyhawks couldn't rally past that mark as they finished the game out and ended it with a 5-3 defeat.

UT Martin hopes to break the five-game skid as they host Southeast Missouri to open OVC play. Senior Winston Cannon will take the mound for the Skyhawks Friday at 3 p.m.

Game Notes - Seth Petry pitched masterfully for the Skyhawks as he has allowed just one earned run in his past 8.1 innings... Christian Hall and Casey Harford led all hitters with two hits and an RBI each... Hall continues his successful start from the offensive side as his multi-hit game boosted his average to .375 on the season.
