MARTIN, Tenn. - Each season the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association honors those who they think will take that step into greatness with the preseason All-American teams. In 2020, the University of Tennessee at Martin is mentioned on the list alongside one of the most prolific closers in Division I, Nick Wohlbold.

The junior right-handed pitcher is no stranger to awards as he was awarded the honor of All-OVC second team after his sophomore campaign. However, that honor fails in comparison to being nationally recognized as a Second-Team Preseason All-American. Out of the 24 spots on the second team, Wohlbold is the eighth player recognized from a non-power five conference. As well, he is the only player to be named to any of the three lists that is from the Ohio Valley Conference.

Â
It is no surprise to those that have seen Wohlbold in action as he came in and saved 13 games in 2019. That mark stands as the seventh-most in conference history and put him on the map as he finished 11th in the NCAA for saves during the 2019 campaign. His ability to make batters swing and miss is one of his primary tools for success as he struck on 44 batters in 35.2 innings of work. Along with his 3.03 ERA, Wohlbold made quick work against his competition that was only able to garner a .244 batting average against the right-hander.

The tradition of creating the preseason All-American teams started back in 2000. In those 20 years, no one from UT Martin has been given the right to be part of the list. Now after coming off a school record for Division I wins, the man that brings home the victory is on that list.
