
UT MARTIN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO EVEN SEASON SERIES AGAINST EIU ON SATURDAY

The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team looks to even the season series against Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 15. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. and serves as the OVC ESPN3 Game of the Week.
The Skyhawks (15-9, 11-2 OVC) saw their winning streak come to a halt on Thursday evening at Southeast Missouri. UT Martin fought back from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit down the stretch and had a chance at a potential game-winner but the three-pointer fell short of victory 71-69. With the loss, the Skyhawks dropped into a three-way tie atop the OVC standings for first place.
UT Martin is led in scoring by junior forward Chelsey Perry who ranks second nationally with 23.1 points per game and ninth with 2.9 blocks per game. A candidate for both OVC Player and Defensive Player of the Year, Perry recently posted her seventh 30-point outing of the season after tallying 36 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two blocks against Southeast Missouri.
Eastern Illinois (15-9, 9-4 OVC) enters Saturday's contest riding a four-game winning streak after posting a pair of thrilling overtime victories against Morehead State and SIUE. The Panthers currently sit two games out of first place in the league standings while sitting tied for fourth.
The Panthers are led in scoring by Karle Pace who averages 15.7 points per game while four players average in double figures. Abby Wahl ranks second on the team with 12.0 points per game while Lariah Washington (11.4 ppg) and Taylor Steele (10.5 ppg) aren't far behind.
Saturday's contest marks the 55th meeting between the two programs in a series which dates back to 1975. UT Martin boasts a 34-20 record in the series while the Skyhawks are 16-8 against the Panthers under the direction of head coach Kevin McMillan – including 10-straight wins at home. Eastern Illinois won the previous meeting on Jan. 23, 74-70. Perry chipped in 36 points to lead all scorers for the Skyhawks while the Panthers saw five players score in double figures.
