As live game action for Division I baseball kicks off, the preseason watch lists keep coming, and for UT Martin's closer Nick Wohlbold, it's another list with his name on it.
Â
Â
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Feb. 10 released the preseason watch list for Stopper of the Year. With that, the University of Tennessee at Martin's Wohlbold made the NCBWA cut once again.
Â
Â
The Stopper of the Year award is an annual award that is given to the best reliever in Division I. This preseason list is comprised of the 70 best relief pitchers the game has to offer, and with no surprise, Wohlbold is amongst them. A year after solidifying himself on a national stage by ranking 11th in the NCAA for saves, 13, his name now belongs on three prestigious preseason lists. From being named a Second-Team All-American to the All-OVC team, there is no shortage of recognition.
Â
Â
Wohlbold joins this list with a fellow OVC competitor in Jacksonville State's Corely Woods. In total, the watch list features 22 different conferences, with 18 of them having at least two players on the list. The award itself has circulated since 2005, with the most recent winner coming in the form of UCLA's Holden Powell.Â
Â
Â
The list is going to alter throughout the season as the NCBWA will release the midseason watch list on April 22. From that point, they will release the names of the finalists on June 3, before awarding the best reliever in the game their award June 13.
Â
Â
Wohlbold will start his claim towards the coveted prize this weekend as the Skyhawks take on St. Louis University in Mobile, Ala.
