MARTIN, Tenn. – After a near two-week layoff, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad makes its return to the hardwood against the Bethel Wildcats on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Tipoff time is set for 2 p.m. and will be followed by a women's contest against Southern Illinois at 5 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.
This matchup was originally scheduled for Dec. 7 but was postponed after the Skyhawk men's basketball program paused all activities on Dec. 4.
UT Martin (1-0) has won each of the last 13 contests against Bethel, having not lost to the NAIA program from nearby McKenzie since Nov. 23, 1981. Although the two schools are separated by only 25 miles, this marks the first time they have squared off since the 2013-14 campaign.
Since joining the NCAA Division I ranks in 1992, the Skyhawks are a perfect 58-0 against non-Division I programs. This is UT Martin's first outing against a non-Division I opponent since a 92-72 win over Mount St. Joseph on Dec. 29, 2019.
In their season opener on Dec. 2, the Skyhawks dialed up a 93-87 double overtime victory over Evansville. UT Martin connected on 47.6 percent (10-for-21) of its three-point tries and outscored the visiting Purple Aces by a 36-20 margin in the paint.
Skyhawk sophomore guard Eden Holt was named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after a game-high 24-point performance against Evansville. Cameron Holden (16 points, team-best eight rebounds), Jaron Williams (11 points) and Eman Sertovic (10 points) additionally registered double-digit scoring outputs in the season opener for UT Martin.
This game will be the fourth in the span of seven days for Bethel (4-4), who is coming off an 89-82 road triumph over Crowley's Ridge on Saturday. Chandler Clements' team-highs of 20 points and eight rebounds paced a Wildcat squad who won the battle on the glass (44-33) and forced 23 turnovers.
Chris Brinkley will provide all the play-by-play commentary live on both ESPN+ and locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, as well as a link for live stats, can be found above.
