
UT MARTIN RODEO STARTS 2020-21 CAMPAIGN WITH TOP-FOUR FINISHES AT MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE

MARSHALL, Mo. – Both University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo squads placed in the top-four of their respective standings in the season-opener at Missouri Valley College.
The UT Martin men's team compiled 440 points to finish second behind Missouri Valley College (755). On the women's side, UT Martin accrued 90 points – which was good enough for a fourth-place showing. Arkansas-Monticello topped the women's standings with 260 overall points.
Stetson Bierman had quite a season debut for UT Martin, nearly sweeping all three phases of the bareback riding event. He won the average (152) and short go (77) while placing second in the first round with a 75. Bryce Sifford also registered points for UT Martin in the event, finishing fourth in average (135), fourth in the second go (69) and fifth in the opening round (66).
In calf roping, Robbie Van Holten and Cole Walker dominated the top of the standings for UT Martin. Van Holten won the average (21.2) and first round (10) while placing second in the short go (11.2). Walker earned second-place finishes in both average (21.4) and in the opening round (10.1) while his short go time of 11.3 seconds was good enough for third place.
Anna Scott dialed up points in breakaway roping, as the senior from Bennett, NC finished fifth in both average (16.6) and in the short round (13.2).
Recording points for UT Martin in saddle bronc riding was Tyler Pruitt, who placed third in average (118), third in the opening round (60) and fourth in the short go (58).
A trio of UT Martin cowboys piled up points in steer wrestling. Cole Harmon paced the group with second-place efforts in average (12.6) and in the opening round (6.5) while also finishing third in the short go (6.1). Van Holten and Walker continued their successful all-around weekends as Van Holten placed fourth in the short round (7.0) and fifth in average (22.4) while Walker's time of 12.6 seconds in the opening go was good enough for sixth place.
Kailey Schmidt secured points for UT Martin in all three phases of goat tying. Her time of 8.6 seconds in the short round earned her a third-place finish while she split fourth in both average (16.2) and in the opening go (7.6).
Three UT Martin cowboys took part in team roping, led by Chase Thrasher and Walker. That duo placed third in both average (24.1) and in the short round (12.1). Ryon Belk also joined forces with Three Rivers' Blake Fenton and came away with a fifth-place effort in the first round (10.0 seconds).
UT Martin gets back at it next week when it travels to Meridian, Miss. for a rodeo hosted by West Alabama on Sept. 24-26.
