
UT MARTIN RIFLE OPENS 2020-21 CAMPAIGN WITH PAIR OF INDIVIDUAL CAREER-HIGHS AGAINST MURRAY STATE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle squad kicked off its 2020-21 season this weekend, hosting Murray State at the Skyhawk Rifle Range. Despite career-high performances by UT Martin student-athletes in both disciplines, the visiting Racers claimed the match by a 4,633-4,577 margin.
The Skyhawks accumulated 2,320 points in air rifle and 2,257 points in smallbore. Two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference performer Rachel Sprague paced UT Martin in both events, firing a 585 in air rifle and a 574 in smallbore. Nick Fares (580 in air rifle) and Kalen Royal (558 in smallbore) additionally established new career-highs in their respective disciplines over the weekend.
In air rifle, Jennifer Plocinik's 584 was one point shy of a team-high score. Following Fares was Jacob Osborne (571) and Abigail Donald (568) to round out the Skyhawk tally.
Plocinik was UT Martin's second-best finisher in smallbore, as the redshirt senior from Lehighton, Pa. compiled 566 points. Osborne finished with a score of 559 while Fares came away with a 555.
The Skyhawks return to action next weekend with a pair of neutral-site matchups at Murray, Ky. UT Martin will square off against Morehead State on Saturday, Oct. 10 before facing Ole Miss on Sunday, Oct. 11.
