CLEVELAND, Ohio – The University of Tennessee at Martin football duo of Gavin Olson and John Bachus III have been recognized as Phil Steele Postseason FCS Freshman All-Americans as announced by the publication this afternoon. Olson was named to the second team offense while Bachus garnered fourth team offense honors.
Hailing from Memphis, Tenn., Olson played in 10 games while starting the final nine games of the season at right tackles as a true freshman. Anchoring an offensive line which blocked for All-OVC honorees Bachus and Logan, he graded at 82 percent or higher per game while tallying 82 knock downs. After joining the starting lineup leading into Ohio Valley Conference play, Olson helped solidify an offensive unit which propelled the team to a 6-3 record in the final nine games with ranking second in scoring offense.
A native of Pulaski, Tenn., Bachus has picked up numerous postseason honors after a standout freshman campaign. Tabbed as OVC Freshman of the Year both by the league and Phil Steele, Bachus was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award after ranking first among freshmen nationally with 2,549 passing yards, fourth in passing touchdowns (18) and fifth in total offense (218.1 yards per game). He was also a four-time OVC Newcomer of the Week honoree while claiming a pair of OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
