BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the fifth time this season, University of Tennessee at Martin junior forward Chelsey Perry has been named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week after another pair of dominating performance against Tennessee State and Belmont last week.
Perry continued her dominating stretch of performances, posting her fifth OVC Player of the Week designation, claiming five of the last seven honors. Last week she helped her team remain unbeaten with a pair of victories while averaging 28.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game.
Hampered by an injury which saw the standout play just 22 minutes against Tennessee State, Perry still managed to record 22 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in limited action. She responded less than two days later with yet another show-stopping performance against Belmont, tallying her third 30-point game of the season with 34 points, seven rebounds, six blocks and three assists in the double-digit victory.
Perry has moved among the league's elite in her junior campaign, ranking first in the league in points per game (26.0 ppg) and blocks (18) while sitting amongst leaders in rebounds (9.8), field goal percentage, free throw percentage (47.4 percent), three-pointers made (nine) and minutes played (33.5). She also ranks in the top-25 in field goals made (10th), points per game (11th), blocked shots (12th), blocked shots per game (13th) and points (18th).
UT Martin will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 16 against OVC rival Murray State. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
