SKYHAWK MEN’S HOOPS TO TAKE PART IN INAUGURAL BATTLEGROUND 2K19 EVENT IN HOUSTON

MARTIN, Tenn. – As the 2019-20 University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball nonconference schedule is reaching the finalization stage, another marquee event featuring the Skyhawks was announced today. UT Martin will compete in the debut of the Battleground 2k19 event as part of a Dec. 18 tripleheader held at the Toyota Center, home of the NBA's Houston Rockets.
The Skyhawks will take on the Baylor Bears out of the Big 12 Conference while the event will also feature Utah State vs. South Florida and Oregon State vs. UTSA. Game times and television broadcast information will be released at a later date.
The Battleground 2k19 event is produced by the U-Sports Group. The backdrop for the event will be a campaign called Athletes Against Abuse. The initiative will strive to blur the lines between sport and service, inspiring athletes to use their ability, notoriety and influence to improve the lives of those around them. The initiative will utilize the Battleground 2k platform to get college programs involved and bring awareness to child abuse in our country.
Today's announcement marks the second premier nonconference event for the UT Martin men's basketball program in 2019-20. In February, the Skyhawks were unveiled as one of eight teams who will make up the 12th annual Men's Cancun Challenge field. UT Martin will play at Wichita State (Nov. 16) and at Northern Iowa (Nov. 19) before traveling to Playa del Carmen, Mexico for games against Gardner-Webb on Nov. 26 and Boston or Northern Colorado on Nov. 27.
