MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team will host a rare fall match on Saturday, Sept. 28, welcoming in-state foe Christian Brothers to the Skyhawk Tennis Complex at 3 p.m.
The Skyhawks' first home match of the season coincides with UT Martin's "Family Weekend" festivities. This is one of two home dates on UT Martin's fall slate, as it will also host the Skyhawk Fall Invite on campus on Oct. 25-26.
Saturday's match will be the second official competition for the Skyhawks this season, as UT Martin opened the 2019-20 campaign at the APSU Fall Invitational two weeks ago. Six total Skyhawks took part in that tournament, combining for five singles wins and one doubles victory against a high-quality field.
Leading the way for UT Martin in the season-opening tournament was freshman Aziza Aubin, who reeled off a three-match winning streak on her way to the Flight 3 singles consolation championship. Also nabbing singles victories for the Skyhawks was Mizuki Sakurai (Flight 1) and Sina Albersmeier (Flight 2).
In doubles, UT Martin collected a win thanks to the pair of Jule Streif and Albersmeier – as that duo managed a hard-fought triumph in the Flight 2 opening round.
Christian Brothers is under the direction of fifth-year head coach MJ Garnett as the Lady Bucs return three key players from last season. Judit Aubets Macia (17 combined wins, exclusively playing at No. 1 in both singles and doubles) is the lone senior on the Christian Brothers roster while Laura Brazuelo (19 combined victories, including a team-high 11 singles wins) and Nellina Wooten (seven singles wins) make the Lady Bucs a formidable fall opponent.
