UT MARTIN TENNIS COLLECTS A SWEEP IN HOME OPENER, BLANKING CHRISTIAN BROTHERS BY A 7-0 MARGIN

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team clicked on all cylinders during its 2019-20 home opener on Saturday, defeating the visiting Christian Brothers Lady Bucs by a final score of 7-0.
All seven healthy Skyhawks who took part in the match earned at least one victory while the returning trio of Daphne Pratt, Amelia Campbell and Mizuki Sakurai went a perfect 2-0 on the day. Pratt was making her season debut while freshman Jillian Niedzialowski emerged as a winner in her collegiate debut for UT Martin.
The Skyhawks started off with a dominant performance in doubles, winning each of their two matchups to take the first awarded point of the match. UT Martin's No. 1 squad of Sakurai and Pratt joined forces to claim a 6-1 win over Judit Aubets Macia and Laura Brazuelo. Moments later, the Skyhawks capped off the sweep with a 6-3 victory by Campbell and Niedzialowski over Esther Guemes/Nellina Wooten at No. 2.
UT Martin was equally as impressive in singles, completing a well-rounded performance with six more wins. Pratt defeated Guemes by a 6-4, 6-1 margin at No. 1 and was followed by Campbell's 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Aubets Macia at No. 2. Sakurai came away with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 against Brazuelo while Sina Albersmeier tallied a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Gabriela Marin. At No. 5, Jule Streif managed a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Wooten while Aziza Aubin notched a win via walkover at No. 6.
The Skyhawks are back in action on Friday, Oct. 11 through Sunday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the Samford Invite.
