
UT MARTIN VOLLEYBALL PROUDLY PLAYS HOST TO SKYHAWK INVITATIONAL THIS WEEKEND

MARTIN, Tenn. – For the first time this season, the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team will play in front of its home crowd as the program will put on the Skyhawk Invitational on Friday, Sept. 20 through Saturday, Sept. 21.
The 2019 Skyhawk Invitational field includes Evansville, Little Rock, Mercer and UT Martin. This marks the fifth time since 2011 that the Skyhawks have hosted an in-season tournament.
Four matches are set for Friday, starting with a 10 a.m. matchup between Little Rock and Mercer. The Skyhawks' home opener follows at 12:30 p.m. when UT Martin squares off against Evansville. The third match of the day features Evansville against Little Rock at 4:30 p.m. before the Skyhawks once again take the floor at 7 p.m. for a bout against Mercer. Saturday's action begins at 11 a.m. with Mercer against Evansville, followed by the tournament finale with UT Martin against Little Rock at 2 p.m.
The Skyhawks enter their 2019 home opener with a 3-8 overall record. Jessica Reynolds paces UT Martin with 86 kills (2.26 per set) while Gintare Mackeviciute leads the way with a .242 hitting percentage. Kenzie Hinshaw (team-high 7.59 assists per set) and Justine Walker share the team lead with nine service aces apiece. Defensively, Jamie Rys and Walker have been the Skyhawk anchors, averaging 3.44 digs and 1.20 blocks per set, respectively.
Evansville (6-2) comes into the Skyhawk Invitational on a five-match winning streak. Melanie Feliciano has dialed up team-highs of 166 kills (5.19 per set) and a .297 attack percentage. Allanna McInnis directs the Purple Ace offense with 11.19 assists per set while Gabriella Macedo tops the squad in service aces (14) and digs (5.09 per set). Hannah Watkins chips in 1.35 blocks per set to aid Evansville's defensive attack.
After starting the season winless through seven matches, Little Rock (2-7) enters the weekend coming off back-to-back victories. Laura Jansen and Carol Barbosa have each accumulated a team-best 62 kills while Barbosa's .250 hitting percentage also leads the Trojans. Topping Little Rock in assists (4.43 per set) and service aces (nine) is Nathalia Vigineski while Little Rock's defense is guided by Diana Giordani (4.50 digs per set) and Janae Thurston (0.70 blocks per set).
Mercer sports an even 5-5 mark during the 2019 campaign, taking two out of three last weekend at the New Orleans Invitational. Annie Karle is the team leader in kills (113, 2.97 per set) and service aces (21) while Jaida Howell's .349 attack percentage leads the way for the Bears. Nya Steele (6.94 assists per set), Emilee Wissmach (2.76 digs per set) and Alexia Morey (0.86 blocks per set) rank as Mercer's leaders in their respective statistical categories.
