MARTIN, Tenn. – Fifteen home games highlight a loaded scheduled for the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team as the complete 2019-20 slate was announced by head coach Kevin McMillan today.
UT Martin will take on teams from nine different conferences, including eight teams which qualified for postseason play in 2018-19 along with one first-time opponent. Additionally, the Skyhawks will travel to eight different states as part of their 29-game schedule.
"I like how our schedule has come together," McMillan said. "Just like most years, our schedule is highly competitive with eight teams which appeared in the postseason last year while also treating our fans with 15 home games, including a matchup against a perennial top-10 program like Louisville. With some top competition on the schedule, we also looked to add great regional matchups to fill openings left by long-standing series that weren't renewed and have found nice fits to challenge us before conference play."
The Skyhawks will play 11 non-conference games before opening Ohio Valley Conference play in January. UT Martin will look to start new regional matchups after a long-standing series with Arkansas State ended after eight seasons. In its place, the Skyhawks welcome the likes of Saint Louis which resumes its series for the first time since 2012 on Wednesday, Nov. 6 to open the season.
UT Martin will travel to 2017 national champion runner-up Mississippi State on Nov. 11 before making the cross-country trek to Gonzaga on Nov. 14. From there, the Skyhawks will make their home debut on Nov. 21 when playing former OVC foe Samford before squaring off against IUPUI on Nov. 25.
The Skyhawks will close out the month of November on the road at Missouri Valley Conference foe Illinois State on Nov. 30 before another MVC matchup on Dec. 3 at Southern Illinois. UT Martin hosts a pair of in-state foes with a matchup against Chattanooga (Dec. 8) and Lipscomb (Dec. 16). The Skyhawks will then cap the non-conference home slate when playing host to perennial title contender Louisville on Dec. 19 before ending the calendar year at Arkansas on Dec. 29.
OVC play will open on Thursday, Jan. 2 with a road matchup at Murray State before traveling to Austin Peay on Jan. 4. From there the Skyhawks will open a four-game homestand against Tennessee State (Jan. 9), Belmont (Jan. 11), Murray State (Jan. 16) and Austin Peay (Jan. 18). Conversely, the following two weeks will feature a four-game road trip with matchups against Eastern Illinois (Jan. 23), SIUE (Jan. 25), Eastern Kentucky (Jan. 30) and Morehead State (Feb. 1).
The final month of the regular season will feature home games against Tennessee Tech (Feb. 6), Jacksonville State (Feb. 8), Eastern Illinois (Feb. 15), SIUE (Feb. 27) and Southeast Missouri (Feb. 29). The Skyhawks will wrap up the season with road matchups at Southeast Missouri (Feb. 13), Tennessee Tech (Feb. 20) and Jacksonville State (Feb. 22).
For the third consecutive year, the OVC Basketball Championship tournament will take place at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. The four-day event is scheduled for March 4-7.
