MARTIN, Tenn. – The 2019-20 University of Tennessee at Martin tennis season officially starts this weekend when the Skyhawks make the short trip to Clarksville, Tenn. for the APSU Fall Invitational held on Sept. 13-14.
The APSU Fall Invitational is one of six events on UT Martin's fall portion of the schedule, as the Skyhawks will take part in five tournaments and one match. Home events this fall include a match against Christian Brothers on Saturday, Sept. 28 during Family Weekend while UT Martin will also proudly host the Skyhawk Fall Invite on Oct. 25-26.
UT Martin does not have a senior on the 2019-20 roster but returns four players with a wealth of experience. Amelia Campbell, Mizuki Sakurai, Jule Streif and Daphne Pratt have combined for 118 victories in their collegiate careers and each played key roles in last season's deep postseason run to the Ohio Valley Conference championship match.
Campbell boasted a winning record in both singles (14-12) and doubles (16-11) last season as a sophomore while Sakurai showed versatility by competing in three different singles slots to go along with a 14-10 doubles mark. Nine of Streif's 10 wins last season came during the fall, as she collected one of the team's highest winning percentages (.600) in fall singles action. Pratt solidified herself in the No. 3 position in singles while tacking on a 14-10 doubles record as a true freshman in 2018-19.
Four players will be making their Skyhawk debuts this season. Natasha Sijan attended UT Martin last season but did not compete while rehabbing an injury while fellow sophomore Sina Albersmeier put together an all-conference season at Martin Methodist College. Freshmen Aziza Aubin and Jillian Niedzialowski each look to make an impact after stellar high school careers against stiff competition.
