
UT MARTIN FINISHES SECOND AT TENNESSEE TRI-STAR CROSS COUNTRY CHALLENGE

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin cross country squads opened the season on Friday morning at the Tennessee Tri-Star Cross Country Challenge ran at Cherokee Farm in Knoxville.
Competing against Tennessee at Chattanooga in the field, both the men's and women's teams finished second overall despite purposefully holding back the first two miles before pushing for a strong finish.
In the men's four mile run, UT Martin was paced by Alex Schell who finished just outside the top-10 with a time of 21:53.54. The team's other top scorers were right behind with all five athletes posting top-20 times. Tim Dye was the second Skyhawk to cross at 21:58.08 while the trio of Lenny Baumann (21:59.89), Will Oglesby (22:11.94) and John Payne (22:17.77) rounded out the scoring five.

In the women's three mile run, it was junior Kara Martin who led the way after missing all of last season, finishing fifth overall with a time of 18:11.01. Not far behind was junior Alexis Grandys with a seventh-place time of 18:21.74. Rounding out the scoring five was the trio of freshman Erica Fisher (19:28.94), senior Agok Ayuen (19:45.61) and junior Lydia Lee (20.03.98).

UT Martin will return to competition on Friday, Sept. 13 at the John Flamer Invitational.
