5/7/2019 9:46:00 AM | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
The University of Tennessee at Martin will look to make some noise this weekend at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships beginning on May 9 through May 11. The championship event will be held at the Abe Stuber Track Complex on the campus on Southeast Missouri.
This marks the seventh time the OVC Outdoor Championship has been contested at the Abe Stuber Track Complex. Every day of the championship will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Links for both live video along with results and the championship central can be found above.
After posting record-setting performances week after week, UT Martin will look to leave its mark against league competition in search for event titles throughout the three-day competition. Below you will find key events and competitors to watch heading into the championship.
Highlighting Thursday's competition list are key event prelims along with one final. Junior Lydia Lee will compete for the team's lone event title of the evening when she runs in the rigorous 10k women's final in the nightcap. The Skyhawks will also compete in a handful of prelims on Thursday evening. Junior Oisin O'Gailin will look to continue his strong pace of late in the men's 1500m prelim. Following that, freshman Anndrea Chester will look to advance to finals in the women's 400m hurdles prelim. Rounding out the day will be three-time OVC Indoor champion Tyreke Sapp making his outdoor debut in the men's 200m prelim – an event he won at the OVC Indoor Championship back in February.
Friday's competition will see several Skyhawks jump into action. The day will begin with freshman Jalynn Landversicht looking to post another school record in the women's high jump final. Then sophomore Bryana Maclin will attempt to continue her hot streak coming off a recent PR at the Memphis Invitational in the women's 100m hurdle prelim. The men will join the action as senior Jonathan Conley highlights the men's 400m prelim while junior Leonel Perez competes in the men's 800m prelim. Wrapping up the day will be a field paced by sophomore Tim Dye in the men's 3000m steeplechase after a staggering PR at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Saturday will serve as the culmination of the championship event as all of the prelim qualifiers advance to the finals stage. After just missing out on the finals during the indoor season, Chester looks primed to take the next step in the women's 400m hurdle. Meanwhile another freshman Alexis Grandys will put her training to the test in the women's 5000m final after serving as the highest ranked freshman by 30 second in conference action all while recently recording a PR in California of 17:22. The final event of the championship will see Sapp, Perez, Conley and Brady Fry compete in the men's 4x400m final. The group will look to shock their competitors after taking home the men's DMR title at the OVC Indoor Championship.
