MURRAY, Ky. – Senior Asel Jumamukhambetova remained unblemished in Ohio Valley Conference singles but the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team barely fell 4-3 at preseason favorite Murray State this afternoon.

The Skyhawks (3-9, 1-3 OVC) gained the early edge by sweeping the doubles point. Andrea Plantada and Amelia Campbell took the No. 3 matchup by a 6-2 margin while Jumamukhambetova and Jemima Potter closed out the doubles win with a 6-2 edge in No. 1.

In singles, Jumamukhambetova was responsible for a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 while Campbell earned a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 triumph at No. 5. However, UT Martin could not manage another singles victory despite several close matchups.

At No. 3, Daphne Pratt fell by a 6-3, 6-3 margin while Potter competed at No. 2 but dropped a 6-2, 6-1 matchup. Plantada was slotted at No. 4 and battled throughout but fell 6-1, 6-2. Jule Streif represented the Skyhawks at No. 6 singles but could not come away with a win, falling 6-0, 6-3.

UT Martin faces a quick turnaround before its next matchup, as it travels to OVC rival Austin Peay tomorrow. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. from Clarksville, Tenn.
