WACO, Texas – The University of Tennessee at Martin battled today in the Equitation on the Flat quarterfinal round of the 2019 National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championships but No. 1 Auburn proved to be too much in a season-ending 4-0 setback for the Skyhawks.
UT Martin, who was seeded No. 8 in the event and coming off a first round victory over No. 9 TCU on Wednesday, trotted out a lineup that consisted of senior Monika Zoromski, freshman Kelby Kane, sophomore Kenzie Mezrah and sophomore Abbie Hopkins.
Zoromski drew the first ride out of 32 competitors on the day and came away with a score of 185 points. Kane was next up as she generated a team-best 222-point ride. Mezrah made her NCEA Championship debut with a score of 197 before Hopkins closed out the Skyhawks' participation by dialing up 213 points.
Today's result marks the end of yet another successful UT Martin equestrian season under head coach Meghan Cunningham Corvin. The Skyhawks produced the program's first-ever NCEA first team All-American (Noel Meadows, reining) and boasted five different All-United Equestrian Conference honorees. UT Martin appeared in the national top-10 rankings in seven different weeks, wrapping up the 2018-19 campaign with a 5-7 overall record which included the program's first-ever win over a Southeastern Conference opponent (11-9 win over No. 6 Georgia on Jan. 24).
