Meghan Cunningham Corvin was named the University of Tennessee at Martin’s inaugural head equestrian coach in 2005. The 2020-21 season marks her 16th season at the helm of the highly successful Skyhawk program.
Corvin helped transition equestrian at the university from a club to a varsity sport. In her time at UT Martin, the team has been seeded to participate in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championship (NCEA) in 11 of the 13 years since the team’s transition to varsity status. The Skyhawks have annually been ranked in the NCEA top-10 national polls and have produced 12 All-Americans in their storied history.
Corvin is also active within NCEA serving on many committees including Championship and Selection. She previously had served as the president of the NCEA.
In 2019-20, Abbie Hopkins was named an NCEA Ariat second team All-American in flat as well as Eastern College Athletic Conference Flat Rider of the Year. She became just the second Skyhawk representative (first since 2013) to collect All-American status in two different events in a career.
The Skyhawks were ranked in the top-10 of the NCEA polls for 12 combined weeks in 2019-20. In its first season as a member of the ECAC, four different UT Martin honorees (Tess Baumann, Hopkins, Kelby Kane, Devon Woods) joined forces to nab 10 ECAC Rider of the Week awards as well as a pair of Rider of the Month accolades. In addition, Hannah McDonald became just the fourth Skyhawk to ever be named NCEA Rider of the Month when she captured that accolade for February in reining. On the academic side, UT Martin combined for 13 spots on the Farnam NCEA All-Academic Team.
Two seasons ago, UT Martin boasted first team All-American Noel Meadows, who became the first Skyhawk to ever nab All-American first team status and just the second UT Martin rider to claim All-American status more than once. Meadows chalked up United Equestrian Conference Reining Rider of the Year honors and joined All-UEC honorees Hopkins, Kane and McDonald as the Skyhawks spent seven weeks in the national top-10 standings. Kane chalked up UEC Freshman of the Year honors in equitation on the flat as UT Martin produced a victory in that same event at the 2019 NCEA Event Championships. In addition, the Skyhawks boasted 15 NCEA All-Academic/APHA Academic Honor Roll recipients.
In 2017-18, Corvin helped guide UT Martin to arguably its most successful season in program history. The Skyhawks were nationally ranked in the top-10 in 16 consecutive polls from Oct. 10 through March 27. UT Martin earned a spot in each of the four discipline championships at the 2018 NCEA Championships, securing a victory in equitation over fences to advance to the national quarterfinals. Corvin presided over three NCEA All-Americans in Hopkins (second team equitation over fences), Meadows (honorable mention reining) and Madeline Williams (honorable mention reining) and four All-UEC recipients, including a trio of All-UEC Freshmen of the Year (Woods in horsemanship, Meadows in reining, Hopkins in equitation over fences). In addition, nine Skyhawks collected APHA NCEA Academic Honor Roll awards.
The Skyhawks produced a pair of All-UEC honorees (Randi LaChance, Brittany Woodard) while LaChance was also named an NCEA honorable mention All-American in equitation on the flat in 2016-17. UT Martin also produced three more NCEA Academic Honor Roll recipients in Woodard, Sammi Felts and Sydney Lintner.
UT Martin spent four consecutive weeks in the national top-10 rankings while also accounting for nine NCEA Academic All-American and Academic Honor Roll recipients in 2015-16.
In 2014-15, Corvin helped guide UT Martin to its ninth consecutive NCEA Tournament appearance. She also oversaw a Skyhawk squad that took home the NCEA Sportsmanship Award and produced a pair of NCEA All-Americans (Mia Bray and Hunter Ralston). Bray was also recognized as the United Equestrian Conference Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Year while Ralston was UT Martin's 2014-15 Bettye Giles Female Athlete of the Year.
UT Martin's academic success also continued in 2014-15, as six Skyhawks (Mykaela Van Selus, Rachel Crinklaw, Laney Hixson, Katie Kallevig, Brittany Woodard and Cora Rogalski) were spotlighted as NCEA academic team honorees.
In 2013-14, UT Martin spent four consecutive weeks in the top-10 national polls, boasted a pair of NCEA All-Americans (Reid Rickett and Mykaela Van Selus) and five NCEA academic team honorees (Melanie Aiosa, Laney Hixson, Sarah Sutton, Sydney LaFreniere and Kaylan Herbst).
Prior to joining the Skyhawks, Corvin was an assistant coach at Kansas State University. Under her leadership, she led the hunter seat squad to three regional and one zone championship with two national appearances with 11 individuals qualifying for national competitions.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pa, Corvin received her bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech in 2001 and master’s degree from Kansas State, both in animal science. Her graduate work centered on the development and promotion of NCEA Equestrian.
Corvin is married to David Corvin and they have two children.
