EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Three players from the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team earned postseason honors from the Ohio Valley Conference on Tuesday afternoon as voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
UT Martin senior guard Emanye Robertson highlighted the list by picking up an All-OVC first team honor while also being named the OVC Defensive Player of the Year. Sophomore forward Chelsey Perry also notched her first All-OVC honor by being named to the second team. Freshman Brittni Moore capped off the team's postseason honors by being named to the OVC All-Newcomer squad.
A native of Memphis, Robertson became the 11th player in program history to earn All-OVC first team honors and just the second individual to be named Defensive Player of the Year – joining former Skyhawk great Jasmine Newsome who won the award three times. She finished the regular season averaging 11.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.7 steals in 31.5 minutes per game. She ranks first in the OVC in steals (80) and steals per game (2.8) while also ranking in the top-10 in assists per game (second), assists (second), field goal percentage (fourth), free throw percentage (sixth), assist/turnover ratio (1.7) and minutes played per game (eighth).
Robertson tallied 18 games in double figures – including five 20-plus point performances against Murray State (24), Tennessee State (22), Jacksonville State (25), Belmont (24) and Tennessee State (28). She tallied one double-double on the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds against Tennessee Tech while averaging 17.4 points per game over the final five games of the season. A four-year starter for the Skyhawks, Robertson is the 15th member of the program's 1,000-point club and will leave UT Martin with her name mentioned amongst some of the all-time greats ranking 12th in career points (1,195), 19th in rebounds (398), second in assists (495), fourth in steals (247) and fourth in career starts (116).
Hailing from Middleton, Perry proved her Preseason All-OVC selection was no fluke by earning a spot on the All-OVC second team after averaging 11.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 1.1 steals in 23.6 minutes per game. The sophomore became the 13th All-OVC second team selection in program history while ranking as one of the top shot blockers in the nation. She ranks third in the OVC and 27th nationally with 65 blocks and 2.2 blocks per game along with recently becoming the third player in school history to eclipse 100 career blocks.
Perry started in 28 games for the Skyhawks while notching 16 games in double figures. She eclipsed the 20-point plateau three times against Arkansas State (21), Eastern Kentucky (25) and Tennessee Tech (28). She also recorded three double-doubles against Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky and Southeast Missouri. Arguably her best game of the season came against Southeast Missouri when she tallied 17 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks. She would tally 18 multi-block outings – including five-plus against Mississippi Valley State (six), Morehead State (six) and Southeast Missouri (seven).
A native of Memphis, Moore burst onto the scene for the Skyhawks during her freshman campaign with her accuracy from beyond the arc and gritty defensive presence to become 12th player in program history to be tabbed to the OVC All-Newcomer squad. She finished the regular season averaging 8.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 20.9 minutes per game. She began to get the attention of viewers nation-wide midway through the season when she led the country in three-point field goals per game while ranking first in the OVC in three-point field goal percentage (46.1) and seventh in three-point field goals made (53).
Moore earned her first start on Jan. 24 against Eastern Illinois and never looked back, starting the final 12 games of the regular season. She has tallied 10 games in double figures this season – including a career-best 22-point performance against Eastern Illinois where she knocked down 5-of-8 three-point attempts. She knocked down three or more three-point field goals eight times while recording 10 multi-steal performances.
UT Martin will open play in the OVC Basketball Championship on Thursday when the third-seeded Skyhawks square off against sixth-seeded Murray State at 3 p.m.
