MARTIN, Tenn. – Today's University of Tennessee at Martin tennis match came down to the final singles matchup but the Skyhawks came up just short, suffering a 4-3 setback at the hands of Belmont.

UT Martin (2-8, 0-2 Ohio Valley Conference) established the upper hand early by claiming the doubles point. Mizuki Sakurai and Daphne Pratt easily handled the Bruins' No. 2 pairing by a 6-1 margin while Asel Jumamukhambetova and Jemima Potter claimed a 6-3 triumph at No. 1.

Belmont (8-6, 2-0 OVC) took a 2-1 lead in the match after wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles to begin the singles portion of the contest. Pratt represented the Skyhawks at No. 3 but fell 6-3, 6-3 while Amelia Campbell battled into a tiebreaking third set before having to retire with a 6-3, 4-6, 5-1 setback.

Andrea Plantada notched a team point with a thrilling 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 come-from-behind victory in the No. 4 slot. After Potter battled but fell 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, Jumamukhambetova evened the match at 3-all after an exciting 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 1.

In the winner-take-all matchup at No. 6, Sakurai left it all on the court. The sophomore from Tokyo, Japan battled cramping issues throughout the match before falling 7-6, 5-7, 6-3.
