MARTIN, Tenn. – The three seniors on the University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian squad will be honored for their career accomplishments before the Skyhawks take on Miami (Ohio) on Thursday, March 14 at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
The senior trio of Sammi Felts, Sydney Lintner and Monika Zoromski will be recognized during a pregame ceremony around 10:30 a.m. The competition will begin at noon.
This senior class has been a part of one of the best runs in school history, as UT Martin has spent 26 total weeks in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 polls over their four-year careers. Individually, the 2019 senior class combined for 39 wins, seven MOP's, four NCEA Academic Honor Roll awards and four mentions on the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.
A Chesterfield, Va. native, Felts has mostly competed in reining at UT Martin. Her career-high score of 71.5 came this season against No. 1 Auburn on Feb. 8. She often rose to the occasion against ranked opposition, as she owns head-to-head victories over her counterparts from No. 5 South Carolina (Nov. 2, 2018) and No. 8 Texas A&M (Sept. 23, 2016).
Lintner took part in both Hunter Seat events throughout her Skyhawk career, coming through with an equitation on the flat victory over Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 18, 2016. Her career-best score of 77 in the flat came against Minnesota-Crookston last season. The Wildwood, Mo. native earned a spot on the Farnam NCEA All-Academic squad as a junior.
Zoromski will go down as one of the most accomplished riders in school history, as she boasts 33 wins and seven MOP's while competing in the Hunter Seat discipline over her storied career. The Saukville, Wis. native posted a career-high score of 94 in equitation over fences against No. 1 Auburn on Sept. 29, 2016 while establishing a career-best 90 points in equitation on the flat earlier this season against Sweet Briar.
The exhibition against Miami (Ohio) is the final tuneup before UT Martin competes in the United Equestrian Conference championship on March 21-23. The five-team, four-meet event will all take place at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
