3/1/2019 9:56:00 AM | Women's Basketball
The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will look to put the finishing touches on its 2018-19 regular season schedule with a home matchup against Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee State on Saturday, March 2. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. with Senior Day festivities scheduled prior to the start of the game.
The Skyhawks (20-8, 12-5 OVC) recorded their ninth 20-win season in program history and the sixth under head coach Kevin McMillan with a thrilling 71-68 overtime victory against defending OVC champion Belmont on Thursday night. With the win, the Skyhawks remain tied with Morehead State for second place in the league standings and in contention for the No. 2 seed in next week's OVC Basketball Championship to be played in Evansville, Ind.
While Saturday marks the end of the regular season, it will also mark the final home game for the Skyhawks lone senior Emanye Robertson. The Memphis native will appear in her 54th game in the friendly confines of the Elam Center while marking her 126th contest in her illustrious career. Robertson will leave the UT Martin program with her name mentioned amongst some of the all-time greats ranking 13th in career points (1,167), 19th in rebounds (397), second in assists (487), fourth in steals (243) and fourth in career starts (115).
Tennessee State (5-24, 5-12 OVC) enter the contest looking for a win to head into the offseason as the squad has already been eliminated from postseason consideration. The Lady Tigers boast two of the more explosive offensive players in the league in Tia Wooten (13.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg) and Taylor Roberts (12.6 ppg). In the teams' previous matchup, Wooten scored 22 points while Terrysha Banner chipped in 13 points to pace the squad.
Saturday's contest marks the 63rd meeting between the two programs dating back to 1979. UT Martin holds a 34-28 advantage in the series while winning 10 of the last 12 meetings. When the two teams met earlier this season, UT Martin tallied a 73-61 road victory behind 40 combined points from Robertson (22) and Maddie Waldrop (18). Tennessee State last won in the Elam Center on Jan. 10, 2009.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
