
SKYHAWK TENNIS BATTLES BUT FALLS AT SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE POWER ALABAMA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team continued its road swing this evening but could not solve a high-powered Alabama squad in a 6-0 setback at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Indoor Courts.

The Skyhawks, who began their spring season last night at Samford, pushed the host Crimson Tide in doubles. Daphne Pratt and Mizuki Sakurai battled at No. 2 before falling 6-4. At No. 1, the UT Martin duo of Asel Jumamukhambetova/Jemima Potter competed throughout before dropping a 6-3 decision. The No. 3 matchup featuring the Skyhawk tandem of Jule Streif and Amelia Campbell were in a battle (5-4) before Alabama clinched the winning point.

In singles, Streif (6-3, 6-2 at No. 6) and Sakurai (6-2, 6-3 at No. 5) were the closest to coming away with a victory for UT Martin. Pratt fell by a 6-3, 6-1 margin at No. 3 while Jumamukhambetova (6-2, 6-1) and Campbell (6-0, 6-2) were defeated at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. Potter put up a fight at No. 2 (6-4, 3-2) but her match went unfinished.

The Skyhawks conclude their busy start to the spring schedule on Sunday, Feb. 10 when they travel to Murfreesboro to take on in-state rival Middle Tennessee. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
