
UT MARTIN TENNIS WRAPS UP LENGTHY ROAD SWING WITH 7-0 SETBACK AT MIDDLE TENNESSEE

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Playing its third road match in four days, the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team competed throughout the match at Middle Tennessee but came up on the short end of a 7-0 setback to the Blue Raiders.

The No. 2 doubles team of Mizuki Sakurai and Daphne Pratt nearly came away with a victory, as they were ahead 3-2 before host Middle Tennessee clinched the opening point. The Skyhawk teams of Asel Jumamukhambetova/Jemima Potter and Amelia Campbell/Jule Streif fell by 6-0 margins at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.

In singles, Potter bounced back from an injury she suffered just two days ago but fell by a 6-2, 7-5 margin at No. 2. Jumamukhambetova put up a fight at No. 1 before falling 6-1, 7-5. Campbell also battled at No. 4 but was ultimately defeated by a 6-4, 6-3 margin. Sakurai (6-3, 6-0 at No. 5), Streif (6-1, 6-1 at No. 6) and Pratt (6-0, 6-1 at No. 3) also represented UT Martin but could not emerge victorious.

The Skyhawks have two full weeks until their next competitive setting, as UT Martin visits a pair of in-state system rivals to complete the month of February. The Skyhawks will travel to Tennessee on Feb. 24 before heading to Chattanooga on Feb. 25.
