The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will look to put the finishing touches on the road portion of the 2018-19 season with a matchup at Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay on Saturday, Feb. 23. Tipoff from the Winfield Dunn Center is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (18-8, 10-5 OVC) enter the final three games of the season sitting tied for third place in the OVC standings and one game out of first. After suffering a 76-73 loss at Murray State on Thursday night, the Skyhawks are hoping to bounce back into the win column like many times before – boasting a 57.8 winning percentage in the next contest coming off a loss.
UT Martin struggled offensively against Murray State, falling behind by as much as 18 points while shooting below 30 percent from the floor. The Skyhawks would fight back down the stretch, trimming the margin to as close at one point but could not overcome the deficit as the team's potential game-tying three-pointer fell short at the buzzer. A total of five different players scored in double figures in the contest led by the play of Zaire Hicks and Damiah Griffin with 13 points each. The duo was joined in double-digits by Emanye Robertson, Brittni Moore and Demi Burdick.
Austin Peay boasts a 14-12 overall mark along with a 9-6 record in OVC play to enter Saturday's contest in sole possession of fifth place. The Governors have won three straight on the season by picking up wins over Morehead State, Murray State and Southeast Missouri. Keisha Gregory leads the team with 13.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while Ariele Gonzalez-Varner tosses in 11.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Saturday's matchup marks the 89th meeting between the two programs with Austin Peay holding a 46-42 advantage in a series which dates back to 1970. Despite winning 15 of the last 20 matchups, UT Martin is looking to notch its first win in the Dunn Center since Feb. 4, 2015, dropping the team's last three road contests.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
