MARTIN, Tenn. – For the fourth year in a row, the University of Tennessee at Martin golf team begins its spring schedule with a trip to Goodyear, Ariz. for the Loyola Intercollegiate on Feb. 23-25.
The Skyhawks will be back in action for the first time as a team since Oct. 16, as the Loyola Intercollegiate is the first of five regular season tournaments before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships start exactly two months from today.
The Loyola Intercollegiate, which will once again be played at the Palm Valley Golf Club, features 17 teams including Air Force, Army West Point, Connecticut, DePaul, Elon, Gonzaga, Hartford, host Loyola, Missouri State, Murray State, Seton Hall, SIUE, South Dakota, Towson, UAB, UT Martin and Xavier. First round action on Saturday and second round play on Sunday begins with shotgun starts at 10 a.m. CST. The final 18 holes will take place on Monday and will tee off with a shotgun start at 9:45 a.m. CST.
The Skyhawks currently rank second in the OVC with a 289.1 scoring average. UT Martin's lineup this weekend will consist of Tate Chumley, Peyton Dix, Ross Redmont, Cameron Smith and Nick Wolf. Those five will look to challenge the Skyhawks' best finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate, which came in 2015-16 (fourth place out of 17 teams).
Chumley's 70.6 scoring average ranks as the fourth-best mark in the OVC as the sophomore from Murfreesboro, Tenn. has played nine of his 14 rounds at even or below par. Redmont ranks sixth in the league in scoring average (71.3), as the redshirt junior out of Memphis, Tenn. boasted a pair of top-10 finishes in the fall. Reining All-OVC honoree Wolf (73.2 stroke average), Smith (74.4) and Dix (74.7) each carded a top-20 finish this past fall for UT Martin.
