BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the third time this season, University of Tennessee at Martin junior forward Quintin Dove has been voted as the Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball Newcomer of the Week.
Dove, who also captured the award on Dec. 3 and Dec. 31, becomes just the sixth Skyhawk to win the award at least three times in a single season. He joins Twymond Howard (2014-15), Deville Smith (2014-15), Lester Hudson (2007-08), Gerald Robinson (2006-07) and Brian Foster (2000-01) on the list.
The 6-8, 200-pounder helped guide UT Martin to a home sweep of Jacksonville State (won 66-64) and Tennessee Tech (77-58) last week. Dove averaged 22.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest, connecting on a sizzling 72 percent (18-for-25) of his field goal tries. He also knocked down 80 percent (8-for-10) of his attempts from the free throw line.
Against then OVC-leading Jacksonville State on Thursday, Dove recorded a game-high 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting to go along with a career-best three steals in only 26 minutes of play. Two days later against Tennessee Tech, he nabbed his first career double-double with a game-best 24 points and a career-high 15 rebounds with two more steals.
Dove currently ranks fourth in the OVC in field goal percentage (.596), sixth in offensive rebounds (2.6 per game) and ninth in free throw percentage (.794). The Cleveland, Ohio native leads the Skyhawks in scoring at 13.0 points per game, upping that average to 14.0 points per outing in league play.
UT Martin returns to action with a split road/home week as the Skyhawks host Southeast Missouri on Thursday, Feb. 14 before traveling to SIUE on Saturday, Feb. 16.
