CHICAGO, Ill. – University of Tennessee at Martin football specialist Terry Williams picked up his second All-American honor of the week after being named to the STATS FCS All-America second team as a punt returner.
Williams was named to the HERO Sports FCS All-America first team earlier in the week. Along with his All-American honors, he was named to the All-OVC first team while also picking up a pair of OVC Specialist of the Week honors this season.
A native of Southaven, Miss., Williams has been a spark plug for the Skyhawks since stepping on the UT Martin campus prior to the 2018 season. After an impressive junior campaign in which he tallied 67 receptions and accumulated 1,156 all-purpose yards, he took his game to another level in 2019. While he led the team with 58 receptions while tallying 581 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver, it was his ability on special teams that took his game to another level.
Williams tallied 22 punt returns for 397 yards, averaging 18.0 yards per return while ranking as the only player in the country (FCS or FBS) to return multiple punt returns for touchdowns. He ranked first nationally with 397 return yards while his 18.0 yards per punt return average ranked second followed by his 22 returns which slotted in at fourth. He tallied punt return touchdowns against Northwestern State (55 yards) and Jacksonville State (65 yards) while also busting a season-long 71-yard return at Eastern Kentucky. As a whole, Williams tallied 24 plays of 25 yards or more this season.
