MARTIN, Tenn. – The postseason awards kept coming for the University of Tennessee at Martin football team as three players were tabbed as All-Americans for their respective classes by HERO Sports. The duo of John Bachus III and Jamarius Landers were named as honorable mention honorees on the Freshman All-American team while Colton Dowell was tabbed to the Sophomore All-American team.
Bachus ranked as one of the top freshman performers all season, finishing in ninth place for the coveted STATS FCS Jerry Rice Award which goes to the nation's top freshman. Along with his national recognitions, Bachus became just the second player in program history to be named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year. The Pulaski, Tenn. native completed 56.6 percent of his passes for 2,549 yards and 18 passing touchdowns while totaling 2,642 yards of total offense and 21 touchdowns. His accolades also included four OVC Newcomer of the Week honors along with being tabbed OVC Player of the Week twice.
A native of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Landers burst onto the scene and depth chart as a true freshman. Landers played in all 12 games for the Skyhawks while tallying 17 tackles and 4.0 tackles for loss. Along with two sacks on the season, he gave opposing offenses challenges with seven quarterback hurries - including a season-high four hurries against Eastern Illinois. While tallying several multi-tackle performances, arguably his strongest outing came against Tennessee State in which he tallied a pair of tackles for loss, including a critical 10-yard sack late in the contest.
Hailing from Lebanon, Tenn., Dowell posted arguably the biggest breakout season by a Skyhawk. The pass-catching tight end ranked second on the team with 38 receptions for 765 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 20.1 yards per reception and 63.8 receiving yards per game. He tallied four 100-yard receiving contests against Tennessee Tech, Southeast Missouri, Jacksonville State and Austin Peay while tallying 12 plays of 25 yards or more.
