BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second consecutive week, the Ohio Valley Conference spotlighted University of Tennessee at Martin guard Parker Stewart as its Newcomer of the Week.
UT Martin has now claimed at least one OVC weekly honoree in each week of the 2019-20 season. Quintin Dove nabbed Player of the Week status on Nov. 11 to join Stewart's last two awards. Stewart joins current teammate Craig Randall II (February and March 2019), Deville Smith (January 2015), Delrico Lane (December 2008), Lester Hudson (January 2008) and Brian Foster (February 2001) as the only Skyhawks to bring home an OVC Newcomer of the Week accolade back-to-back times.
In UT Martin's lone outing last week, Stewart compiled a team-best 22 points to go along with two assists and two steals in a career-high 39 minutes against undefeated Northern Iowa. The 6-5, 200-pound Union City, Tenn. native went 9-for-17 from the field, including a 4-of-9 performance from beyond the three-point arc.
Stewart ranks in the top-10 in the OVC in four different statistical categories. He is second in the league in minutes played (34.2 per game), third in three-point field goals per game (2.6 per contest), seventh in scoring (15.4 points per outing) and seventh in steals (1.6 per game).
The Skyhawks are back in action with games on back-to-back days at the 2019 Cancun Challenge. UT Martin will take on Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, Nov. 26 before playing either Boston University or Northern Colorado on Wednesday, Nov. 27 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
