
UT MARTIN HOLDS ITS OWN AGAINST NATION’S BEST AT CHILE PEPPER CROSS COUNTRY FESTIVAL

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin cross country programs competed against some of the nation's top programs on Saturday morning at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival held at Agri Park in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Skyhawks would hold their won against a field that included several nationally and regionally ranked foes including Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Texas.
The men's collegiate 8k would lead off the morning of competition for the Skyhawks. UT Martin would post an average time of 25:37.6 as a team to finish 14th out of 32 squads. Alex Schell would pace all Skyhawk competitors with a 50th place finish with a time of 25:05.5. Meanwhile, the duo of Tim Dye (25:27.3) and Lenny Baumann (25:33.3) also finished in the top-100 at 81st and 89th, respectively.
The Skyhawks would be round out the scoring-five with John Payne crossing at 25:42.8 followed by Will Oglesby at 26:19.4.

Following the men's race, the Skyhawk women took the stage by recording a team average of 18:20.96 that would be good for a 13th place finish out of 27 teams. Alexis Grandys paced all Skyhawks with a 24th place finish with a time of 17:22.9 to just miss on setting a new PR.
The second Skyhawk would cross at 18:12.7 as Erica Fisher finished 69th and was followed by Agok Ayuen at 18:32.1. Rounding out the scoring-five for UT Martin was Lydia Lee (18:41.9) and Faith Kiprotich (18:55.2).

UT Martin will compete in its final tune-up before the Ohio Valley Conference Championship by competing at the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday, Oct. 18.
