
STEWART UNVEILS CHALLENGING 2019-20 SKYHAWK MEN'S HOOPS SCHEDULE

MARTIN, Tenn. – A total of 29 games make up the University of Tennessee at Martin's 2019-20 men's basketball schedule, which was released today by Skyhawk head coach Anthony Stewart.
The 2019-20 slate features up to seven first-time opponents as well as up to 13 showdowns against teams who won at least 20 games last season. UT Martin will face squads from 12 different conferences this season and will travel approximately 14,491 miles to complete its regular season schedule.
A busy home stretch begins the season, as the Skyhawks host Earlham College out of Richmond, Ind. for an exhibition on Thursday, Oct. 31.
UT Martin officially starts the 2019-20 campaign on Tuesday, Nov. 5 when it plays host to St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Four days later, the Skyhawks take on ETSU for an in-state matchup at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center as the Buccaneers are coming off a 24-win season and a CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) appearance.
A grueling stretch follows as UT Martin plays its next eight games at road or neutral sites. That stint begins with a Nov. 13 contest at Western Illinois as the Skyhawks will look to defeat the Fighting Leathernecks for the second consecutive season.
Three days later, UT Martin opens its participation in the Cancun Challenge. The Skyhawks travel to Wichita State (22 wins, National Invitation Tournament semifinals berth in 2018-19) and Northern Iowa (Missouri Valley Conference championship appearance last year) on Nov. 16 and Nov. 19, respectively. UT Martin then heads to sunny Playa del Carmen, Mexico for a pair of games in two days. The Skyhawks will battle Gardner-Webb (23 wins, NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018-19) on Nov. 26 and will face either Boston University or Northern Colorado (21 wins last season) on Nov. 27.
The month of December opens with a Dec. 6 road game at Central Michigan, as UT Martin will square off against a Chippewas squad that is coming off a 23-win campaign and a berth in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). A little over a week later, the Skyhawks head to UNC Asheville as UT Martin will look to knock off the Big South Conference foe for the third time since 2017.
The Skyhawks' second nonconference event is next on the schedule as UT Martin will compete in the inaugural Battleground2k19 event in Houston, Texas. The Skyhawks will face Big 12 opponent Baylor, who won 20 games on its way to an NCAA Tournament appearance last year.
Nonconference play wraps up on Sunday, Dec. 29 as UT Martin finally returns to the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. The Skyhawks will play Mount St. Joseph out of Cincinnati, Ohio for their first home game in a span of 50 days.
UT Martin starts Ohio Valley Conference play on the road against defending league champion and NCAA Tournament participant Murray State (Jan. 2) and at Austin Peay (Jan. 4).
A four-game homestand follows as the Skyhawks start with Tennessee State on Jan. 9 and 2019 NCAA Tournament team Belmont on Jan. 11. UT Martin then rounds out the season series against Murray State and Austin Peay with games on Jan. 16 and Jan. 18, respectively.
