
UT MARTIN VOLLEYBALL OUTLASTED BY OVC LEADER SOUTHEAST MISSOURI, 3-2

MARTIN, Tenn. – Tonight's volleyball match featuring the University of Tennessee at Martin and Southeast Missouri registered 23 tie scores and 12 lead changes before the visiting Redhawks escaped with a five-set win (22-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-12, 15-13) at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
Four different UT Martin players came away with double-digit kills while another four Skyhawks scooped up career-high tallies in digs this evening. Gintare Mackeviciute's 17 kills powered UT Martin while Logan Wallick (16 kills, career-high 15 digs), Addison Conley (career- bests of 15 kills, 19 digs) and Kenzie Hinshaw (career-highs of 52 assists, 19 digs) each secured a double-double.
Karen Scanlon (12 kills) and Lucy Kaufman (career-best 20 digs) also had big individual performances for the Skyhawks (9-17, 5-6 Ohio Valley Conference), who also received 13 digs from Hannah Phillips.
After the match started with a Wallick kill and a Hinshaw service ace on back-to-back possessions, Southeast Missouri (17-8, 9-2 OVC) went on a 5-0 run. UT Martin quickly responded with a 5-0 run of its own that included three kills out of Conley. The score was even at 16-all but two straight Conley kills helped the Skyhawks push their lead out to three points. With the score knotted at 21-all, UT Martin concluded the set with four of the final five points to take a 1-0 advantage in the match.
Wallick opened the second stanza with two kills while Mackeviciute soon had a hand in four straight points for the Skyhawks (three kills, one block assist). UT Martin led by a 9-7 margin but the Redhawks accounted for eight of the next 11 points. Kills by Conley and Wallick aided the Skyhawks in closing their gap to one point as late as 19-18 but Southeast Missouri scored four unanswered points on its way to tying the match at 1-all.
The Redhawks began the third set on a 4-1 surge but UT Martin soon came away with a 5-0 run behind strong serving from Haeleigh Paulino. Back-to-back Conley kills made the score 8-5 in favor of the Skyhawks. Scanlon later provided three kills in the span of even points to help UT Martin extend its lead out to 19-14, forcing Southeast Missouri to burn a timeout. The Redhawks closed their deficit to one point late (23-22) but Wallick and Conley each answered with a kill as the Skyhawks moved one set closer to the win.
UT Martin struggled offensively in the fourth set, hitting -.229 as a team. A Redhawk attack error on the initial possession resulted in the Skyhawks' lone lead in the set as an 8-0 Southeast Missouri run led to a double-digit lead midway through. Wallick managed a pair of kills to help UT Martin temporarily halt the momentum but the Redhawks were able to force a decisive fifth stanza.

UT Martin 's four-match homestand continues on Saturday, Nov. 2 as the Skyhawks host Tennessee Tech as part of Homecoming weekend. First serve against the OVC foe is scheduled for 11 a.m.
