FLORENCE, Ala. – Sophie Diouf topped the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad in kills for the third straight match but the Skyhawks fell in three sets (15-25, 11-25, 12-25) at undefeated North Alabama this afternoon.

Following the match, Diouf was named to the Noona Kennard Invitational All-Tournament team. The 6-0 transfer out of Southern posted 34 kills (3.78 per set) on a .231 hitting percentage with 10 digs and three blocks over nine sets in the three-match event.

Diouf managed 10 kills today on a .280 attack percentage, committing just three attack errors in 25 swings. Chyler Martin (eight kills), Addie Rosales (nine assists) and Reagan Hamm (eight assists) additionally led UT Martin offensively. Lauren Mariscal's nine digs topped the Skyhawks defensively today.

Chyler Martin got going early, accounting for three kills on three consecutive UT Martin points during the first set. A Mia Saenz kill kept the Skyhawks within striking distance at 16-12 but the Lions ended the set with nine of the final 12 points. Diouf (.429 hitting percentage) and Martin (.286) each had three kills apiece in the opening set.

Diouf and Martin each had two kills apiece in UT Martin's first six points as the Skyhawks jumped out to an early lead. A 9-0 North Alabama run followed before a Martin kill got UT Martin back on track. Carly Mueller and Hamm each tacked on kills but the Lions were able to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Martin's three kills were a team-high for the Skyhawks in the middle stanza.

UT Martin's first three points in the third set came off Diouf kills. Three separate Skyhawks (Hamm block assist, Rylee Key block assist, Diouf kill) contributed during a stretch of three unanswered UT Martin points to give the Skyhawks some momentum before North Alabama wrapped up the match.

UT Martin returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 15 with its home opener against Evansville. The outing, which starts a four-match homestand, will begin at 6 p.m. inside Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
