MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad puts the finishing touches on its season-long four-game road swing when it passes through the Show Me State for an OVC showdown against Southeast Missouri on Saturday, Jan. 5. Tipoff time from Cape Girardeau, Mo. is set for 4:30 p.m.
The Skyhawks and Redhawks have split their last 10 games in the season series, going 1-1 against each other during every year since the 2014-15 campaign.
The last time UT Martin paid a visit to the Show Me Center, the Skyhawks came away with a 72-66 triumph in last year's season finale. The backcourt duo of Delfincko Bogan (17 points) and Parrish Hewitt (15 points, career-best nine rebounds) helped lift UT Martin to just its second road victory at Southeast Missouri since 2010.
The Skyhawks (5-7, 0-1 OVC) are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 92-87 overtime setback in their OVC opener at Eastern Illinois on Thursday. In that game, UT Martin led by as many as nine points late in the second half before the Panthers used an 8-2 run over the final 53 seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime.
Despite the loss, the Skyhawks were able to knock down 15 three-pointers at Eastern Illinois on Thursday. That fell just one trey short of the school's all-time single-game record which was set three times from 2015-16.
Southeast Missouri (5-9, 0-1 OVC) also found itself in a tight decision during Thursday's OVC opener, as the Redhawks fell by a 94-88 margin at SIUE for their fifth straight loss. Southeast Missouri put on a shooting display of its own, burying 13 three-pointers in 26 attempts for an even 50 percent performance.
Skyler Hogan's 18 points paced five Redhawks in double-figures in the absence of leading scorer Ledarrius Brewer. The Preseason All-OVC honoree, who averaged 17.5 points against UT Martin last season, was sidelined with an injury.
