
UT MARTIN MEN'S HOOPS LOOKS TO GET IN THE OVC WIN COLUMN AGAINST SIUE ON SATURDAY

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad puts the finishing touches on a weekend homestand when it collides with the SIUE Cougars in an Ohio Valley Conference showdown. Tipoff on Saturday, Jan. 26 is set for 3:30 p.m., following the Skyhawk women's basketball game.
The Skyhawks lead the all-time series against the Cougars by an 11-8 margin, having won five of the last six matchups. UT Martin has a 6-4 edge in games played at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center and has won three of the last four home outings against SIUE.
These two squads split their season series in 2017-18, with each team tallying identical 70-69 road victories. Skyhawk senior Delfincko Bogan averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game against the Cougars last season, shooting 70 percent overall (14-of-20) - including a 63.6 percent clip from beyond the three-point arc (7-for-11).
UT Martin (5-13, 0-7 OVC) is coming off a 66-64 setback to Eastern Illinois on Thursday night. In that game, the Skyhawks held a 12-point halftime lead but fell victim to a go-ahead three-pointer with 13 seconds remaining. Kevin Little knocked down four 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 16 points for UT Martin.
This game will showcase two of the OVC's best offensive rebounding squads. The Skyhawks lead the league in offensive rebounding percentage (.331) while SIUE's 12.9 offensive rebounds per game rank atop the conference.
On Thursday, the Cougars (6-13, 2-5 OVC) outlasted Southeast Missouri in triple overtime - posting an 87-76 victory for their first road win of the season. David McFarland dialed up 21 points while Brandon Jackson (18 points, 15 rebounds) corralled his second double-double of the season. Reining OVC Newcomer of the Week Tyresse Williford also compiled 18 points, nine rebounds and a game-high five assists for SIUE, who overcame a seven-point deficit with three minutes to go in regulation.
