SKYHAWK MEN'S BASKETBALL GOES FOR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE ROAD WIN IN EASTERN KENTUCKY SERIES ON THURSDAY
1/15/2019 10:16:00 AM | Men's Basketball
MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad will look to replicate its recent road success against Eastern Kentucky when the two teams battle on Thursday, Jan. 17 in Ohio Valley Conference action. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CST, following the women's basketball game as the backend of a doubleheader.
The Skyhawks (5-10, 0-4 OVC) have not lost in Richmond since Jan. 30, 2014 - winning each of their last three visits to McBrayer Arena. That includes last season's 70-69 victory where UT Martin shot 54.7 percent (29-of-53) from the field, led by Delfincko Bogan's team-best 19 points.
The Skyhawks nearly came away with their first conference victory last Saturday but fell by a slim 72-70 margin to unbeaten Austin Peay. UT Martin forced the Governors into 21 turnovers and had a potential game-tying shot at the end of regulation but Austin Peay escaped with the win. Kevin Little paced the Skyhawks with 15 points - his sixth double-digit scoring game so far this season.
UT Martin leads the league with 9.5 three-point field goals made per game against OVC opposition. In conference play, the Skyhawks have boasted four different leading scorers (Preston Parks, Fatodd Lewis, Quintin Dove, Little) in their four games.
Eastern Kentucky (7-10, 0-4 OVC) is coming off a 109-93 shootout at Belmont, which was the fourth consecutive road game to begin its OVC slate. Despite their slow start in league play, the Colonels rank third in the NCAA in steals (10.9 per game) and fourth in turnovers forced (19.41 per game).
Nick Mayo, who scored 36 points against UT Martin in Richmond last year, leads the OVC in scoring (23.6 points per game) and free throw percentage (.880). His 110 free throws made ranks seventh in Division I basketball while his scoring average ranks 10th nationally. Jomaru Brown has tossed in 19.5 points per game in conference play, which is the top scoring average for any OVC freshman.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and can be heard locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, in addition to a link for live stats, can be found at the top of the webpage.
