MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team begins its 2018-19 campaign early next week when it makes the 55-mile trip northeast to the Murray State Invitational on Sept. 10-11.
The Skyhawks return seven players from last season's team, which ranked second in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 291.6 scoring average. UT Martin's depth appears to be a major strength in 2018-19, as reigning All-OVC sophomore Nick Wolf (73.6 scoring average in 2017-18) and redshirt junior Ross Redmont (eighth in the league with a 73.4 scoring average) return for 17th-year head coach Jerry Carpenter.
UT Martin also returns two other members of its OVC Championship lineup in junior Jack Story (74.6) and sophomore Tate Chumley (75.2). Cameron Smith (76.7) is the lone senior on this year's squad while junior Peyton Dix (77.5) and redshirt sophomore Mason Chandler (79.7) will also look to make an impact in 2018-19.
Shelden Barina is the lone newcomer to the Skyhawk roster, as the former Stewarts Creek High School standout is coming off an appearance in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship over the summer.
The 2018 Murray State Invitational features 12 teams, as UT Martin joins Bethel, Brescia, Delta State, Green Bay, Hannibal-LaGrange, John A. Logan, Morehead State, host Murray State, Southern Indiana, Tennessee State and Union. The tournament is being played at Miller Memorial Golf Course, a par-71 course playing at 6,601 yards.
The first two rounds of the tournament are set for Monday, Sept. 10 before the third and final round is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 11. An 8:30 a.m. shotgun start is scheduled for both days.
